McGuireWoods London has added firepower to its debt finance and derivatives practice with the arrival of partner Jennifer Kafcas, who brings 17 years of experience advising lenders and borrowers in complex structured and cross-border transactions in Europe and the United States. She has specialist knowledge of the bond, leverage finance and derivatives markets and documentation across numerous industry sectors.
Her experience includes representing major investment banks in their capacity as lender and hedge counterparty and private equity funds in respect of leveraged finance, asset-based financings and bond transactions. Having worked on numerous high-profile deals in the European market, she brings strong market intelligence and enhances the existing cross-border capacity of McGuireWoods in London. Kafcas joins McGuireWoods from O’Melveny & Myers.
“Jennifer is an important addition for us as we continue to grow our practice in London and Europe,” said Marc Isaacs, leader of the McGuireWoods London debt finance team. “Her experience of complex debt structures and the intercreditor issues that they give rise to is the perfect complement to our already strong debt finance team.”
“Jennifer’s excellent finance and derivative background and deep understanding of cross-border legal and regulatory issues across all capital structures significantly enhances our transactional capabilities, offering a tremendous benefit for our clients,” said Raj Natarajan, chair of McGuireWoods’ Debt Finance Practice.
“McGuireWoods has an incredible reputation in the syndicated finance, derivative and corporate lending space and is well-known for offering top-class commercial and practical legal advice,” Kafcas said. “I think that this approach offers an opportunity to grow my practice and to offer my services to the existing McGuireWoods clients.”
Kafcas joins a firm recognized repeatedly as a leader for its representation of financial institutions in corporate and litigation matters. McGuireWoods consistently ranks among the top legal advisors for syndicated loans in authoritative league tables. In 2016, The American Lawyer honored the firm in its prestigious Global Legal Awards for advising Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., in the financing of Anheuser-Busch InBev NV’s acquisition of SABMiller Plc. The London debt finance team advised Wells Fargo on its role in the $75 billion syndicated loan, the largest commercial loan on record.
